EU Commission Probes Grok
"I can confirm from this podium that the Commission is also very seriously looking into this matter," EU Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier stated during a midday press briefing.
Regnier explained that the Commission is "very well aware of the fact that X, or Grok, is now offering a spicy mode showing explicit sexual content, with some outputs generated with childlike images."
"This is not spicy, this is illegal. This is appalling, disgusting. This is how we see it, and this has no place in Europe," he emphasized.
The spokesperson highlighted that the Commission is closely monitoring the platform’s adherence to the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA).
The remarks followed reports from France that the Paris prosecutor’s office had begun a preliminary investigation into Grok over accusations it produced sexually explicit deepfake images of minors.
"I think X is very well aware that we are very serious about DSA enforcement. They will remember the fine that they have received from us back in December. So we encourage all companies to be compliant, because the Commission is serious about enforcement," Regnier added.
