Poland offers to lead logistics support for Ukraine
After participating in the Coalition of the Willing meeting in Paris, Prime Minister Donald Tusk explained that each significant task within the developing security and reconstruction framework for Ukraine would have a designated “national leader,” emphasizing that Poland’s involvement “must be key and fundamental,” according to reports.
Tusk highlighted that the US delegation praised Poland as a successful example of post-communist economic and institutional recovery, suggesting that Ukraine could potentially “follow the Polish path” if a durable settlement is achieved.
During the Paris talks, Washington and European partners agreed on creating a ceasefire monitoring system under US oversight as part of a broader set of security guarantees aimed at sustaining lasting peace. The summit included leaders and senior officials from 35 countries, NATO, the EU, and Ukraine.
Tusk said discussions concentrated on concrete solutions, particularly on security arrangements and the allocation of responsibilities among participating nations. He confirmed Poland’s readiness to take on major roles, especially in logistics, while noting that Polish forces are not expected to operate within Ukraine itself.
At the same time, he underlined that achieving peace depends on maintaining pressure on Russia and that outcomes will ultimately hinge on the aggressor’s willingness to engage in negotiations. Tusk cautioned that it is too early to claim significant breakthroughs.
He also revealed plans to meet with Polish President Karol Nawrocki later this week to coordinate responsibilities between the government and the presidency as the diplomatic efforts continue.
