Britain Poised to Dispatch Carrier Strike Group to North Atlantic

(MENAFN) British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Saturday that the United Kingdom will dispatch a carrier strike group to the North Atlantic and High North regions in 2025, marking a significant military commitment amid heightened European security concerns.

The HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carrier will spearhead the deployment, Starmer revealed during his address at the Munich Security Conference in Germany, according to media.

The prime minister issued a stark warning that Europe "must be ready to fight," characterizing the continent as a "sleeping giant" possessing "huge defense capabilities." However, he cautioned that "too often this adds up to less than the sum of its parts."

Starmer emphasized a decisive shift from the Brexit era, declaring that Britain has fundamentally transformed from the nation it was during those years. He underscored the interconnected nature of transatlantic security, asserting that British security cannot exist without Europe, nor can European security exist without Britain.

The prime minister reaffirmed Britain's unwavering commitment to honor NATO's Article 5—the alliance's collective defense principle—pledging to defend fellow member states if circumstances require military intervention.
